Banner Health hospitals in Phoenix and Tucson ranked among best in Arizona

U.S. News & World Report names Banner facilities among best in specialties

TUCSON, Ariz. (July 29, 2025)Banner – University Medical Center Tucson was once again recognized as Tucson’s No. 1 hospital and the No. 4 hospital in Arizona by U.S. News & World Report in its latest rankings, released Tuesday.

The 2025-2026 Best Regional Hospital designations are based on U.S. News & World Reports’ rankings of hospitals in 15 specialties and ratings of hospitals’ performance in 20 procedures and conditions.

In all, 12 Banner Health facilities in Arizona were recognized by the U.S. News & World Report rankings with three landing in the top five for the state. Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix was ranked second in the state, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson was fourth and Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City was tied for fifth.

Other Banner facilities ranked high performing across various procedures and services, including Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West, Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix, Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert and Banner Goldfield Medical Center in Apache Junction.

Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center’s oncology partner MD Anderson Cancer Center location in Houston was again ranked No. 1 among cancer hospitals nationwide in the rankings.

Banner – University Medical Center Tucson earned a “high performing” ranking in four adult specialties and “high performing” rating in nine procedures and conditions, including high performing recognitions for the surgical treatment of cancer provided by the experts at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, a department of Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.

The high performing specialties include cancer, urology and geriatrics. High performing-rated procedures and conditions include leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma; colon cancer surgery; prostate cancer surgery; diabetes; heart arrhythmia; heart attack; hip fracture; kidney failure; and pneumonia. 

The ratings are designed to support patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals as part of this year’s rankings. National specialty rankings place hospitals among the top 10 percent of peer institutions nationally, indicating they provide exceptional care for the most medically complex and sickest patients. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excel at multiple factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.
