SUN CITY, Ariz. (Aug. 15, 2025) – Banner Olive Branch Senior Center has opened a new Innovation Lab with a gift from Cox Communications to the Banner Health Foundation. The new Cox Innovation Lab, which opened with a ribbon cutting on Aug. 13, will be available for older adults who utilize the services of Banner Olive Branch, offering countless ways to help them navigate the digital world and stay safe online.
“This new Cox Innovation Lab is a key addition to our many services offered here at Banner Olive Branch,” said Jennifer Lawless, director of the Banner Olive Branch Senior Center. “We have offered online safety and fraud prevention classes previously, and with this new space, we will be able to make an even greater impact through updated technology, additional resources, and enhanced programs that will benefit our community members.”
With an estimated 56 million Americans currently 65 and older and a senior population expected to grow to 94.7 million by 2060, wellness for this population is exceedingly important. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the social isolation many seniors experience, making access to technology essential for staying connected, informed and safe.
Whether someone lacks computer access at home or is interested in learning opportunities, seniors will experience a dynamic and supportive environment at the new Cox Innovation Lab. Visitors to Banner Olive Branch can take advantage of the lab’s computers and participate in a variety of classes and programs designed to enhance their digital skills and build confidence. Through support from Cox Communications, Banner Olive Branch will also be able to double the number of its classes to 50 unique classes per year with 300-400 participants.
The invaluable class offerings span from topics such as bank fraud, how to identify scams, telehealth appointments, how to shop and pay bills online and online dating safety. In addition to the new lab, the investment from Cox Communications will also fund a computer lab program administrator who will be responsible for equipment and expanding the program and its offerings as needed.
