Identification Badges Required on campus 

Stop by Medical Staff Services to obtain your ID badge.  You will need to provide a legible government-issued photo ID card (current driver’s license, military ID or passport). 

Providers, allied health practitioners, residents and students must wear a Banner identification badge while on campus for: 

• Access to restricted areas
• Identity verification for patients, staff and others

Your badge should be worn above the waist at all times.

To protect our patients, staff and visitors, Sterling Regional MedCenter has an extensive plan in place for emergency management.  Banner’s Emergency Management Program focuses on hospital readiness, disaster and employee preparedness through community planning, staff training and education, and disaster exercises to evaluate emergency procedures. 

Regular meetings and drills are conducted among all departments to ensure the facility is ready to face any potential internal or external threat. 

Emergency codes and their meanings are on the back of your badge and posted in the Department Emergency Instruction folders located in every unit as a reference to codes paged overhead.  Becoming familiar with these codes will help you to respond appropriately in the event of an emergency. These instructions are also available on the back of your identification badge.  

Information for Providers - Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Emergency Management?
The role of Banner’s Emergency Management department is to help prevent/mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from scheduled and unscheduled events which could adversely affect our staff, facilities or our ability to provide patient care.

2. How does Emergency Management work at Sterling Regional MedCenter (SRM)?
Sterling Regional MedCenter uses the hospital incident command system (HICS) during all incidents and events. The hospital command center (HCC) is normally located in the Logan/Pawnee conference rooms. The program is overseen by the Emergency Management Coordinator, Bonnie Brownell.

3. What is the role of the provider during a disaster?
Primarily that of treatment in the various treatment areas. There may be other duties directed by the CMO and/or medical staff leadership.

4. Who would the provider contact at the hospital during an emergency?  How?
The provider can call Incident Commander at (970) 526-5540.  

5. How would the provider be contacted if a disaster occurred?
The medical staff office will contact you in the event of a disaster.

6. What disaster training is available for providers?
Specific emergency management training is available through the Banner Learning Center. For additional resources contact the Emergency Management Coordinator.

7. Where should the provider go to during a disaster?
Report to labor pool, location will be provided at that time for assignment.  

8. How can providers become more involved with the Emergency Management?
Providers are encouraged to attend the emergency management meetings and participate in the various exercises.

9. Where can providers go for more resources about Emergency Management, disaster response and preparedness?
There are numerous resources on family and office preparedness on the Banner employee website available for download.

Sterling Regional MedCenter offers both on-site medical interpreters and the Cyracom interpretation system to make sure all patients and physicians can communicate effectively and safely.

It is Medical Interpreter Policy to ONLY use the hospital Medical Interpreter, video remote interpreter or telephonic interpreter service contracted by Banner Health for interpreting to patients, patients' family members and physicians.

Interpretation by patient's family, friends, or untrained staff members is prohibited.

When our medical interpreters are unavailable, Sterling Regional MedCenter enables physicians and staff to use our Cyracom interpretation phone system. Please ask your nurse to connect you to the Cyracom system. 

Note:  Title VI of the federal Civil Rights Act requires that hospitals provide interpreting services to Limited English Proficient. It is Banner Health policy to use ONLY a hospital medical interpreter or telephone service contracted by Banner Health for interpreting to patients, patients’ family members and physicians. Interpretation by family, friends, or untrained staff members is prohibited.
