Specialized Comfort

At life’s end, you and your family deserve compassionate support. At Banner Health, it’s our honor to provide personalized hospice care and specialized comfort services at every stage of your journey.

What is specialized comfort?

Our experienced hospice team understands that every patient’s needs are unique. We provide customized care plans designed to ease physical pain and relieve emotional or mental distress. Our goal is to help patients live with dignity, maintain independence and experience the highest possible quality of life.

Our specialized comfort services are delivered by a team of dedicated health care professionals, including nurses, doctors, social workers and aides. Together, they provide:

  • Pain and symptom management
  • Home and inpatient care options
  • Guidance on treatment choices
  • Advanced care planning resources
  • Referrals to community programs and support

We are here to support both patients and families during this meaningful time.

Who benefits from hospice care?

Hospice care is available to people with life-limiting or serious illnesses, including but not limited to:

  • AIDS/HIV
  • Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
  • Cancer
  • Congestive heart failure
  • ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)

Our team takes a customized approach, focusing on comfort and support for patients and their loved ones.

Levels of hospice care

As a Medicare-certified hospice provider, Banner Health follows Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines for hospice care. Each patient may need different levels of support as their situation changes. Our team adjusts care plans and helps families navigate each transition.

Routine home care

Most patients receive hospice care at home. Services may include:

  • Skilled nursing visits
  • Restorative physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Social services
  • Home health aide support
  • Medical supplies and durable medical equipment

Continuous home care

For patients experiencing severe symptoms, nurses and health aides provide 8 to 24 hours of in-home support. Continuous care may be needed for:

  • Pain from terminal illness
  • Severe nausea or vomiting
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Anxiety or panic attacks
  • Temporary loss of caregiver support

General inpatient care

If symptoms become too difficult to manage at home, patients may move to an inpatient facility for 24-hour hospice care. Once symptoms are under control, patients can return home to resume routine or continuous care.

Inpatient respite care

Caring for a loved one can be overwhelming. Respite care allows family caregivers to take a break while the patient stays temporarily at a care facility. Respite services last up to five days, after which the patient returns home with continued hospice support.

Why choose Banner Health for hospice care?

Every patient is different, and so is every family’s journey. At Banner Health, our hospice team puts you and your loved ones at the center of care. Whether at home, in a facility or through community resources, we are here to provide the specialized comfort that’s right for you.

Let us walk with you through this stage of life with compassion, dignity and support.
